WITHOUT GMO TECHNOLOGY
We are responsible for ensuring that the farmers with whom we work together in India and Tanzania have GMO-free seeds available for the cultivation of our organic cotton. Our control system therefore starts with the seeds.
Since the introduction of GM cotton in India almost a decade ago, it has become increasingly difficult for organic farmers in the Indian state of Madhyapradesh to obtain GM-free seeds. That is why Remei India, in close cooperation with local partners and the bioRe Foundation, started producing its own organic cotton seeds years ago and can make them available to cooperating organic farmers.
In addition, Remei India is reviving the cultivation of traditional Indian desi cotton and securing market access for these old varieties through access to the Remei textile supply chain.
In Tanzania, the use of genetic engineering in cotton seed breeding is banned by the government. Accordingly, Tanzanian seed is free from genetic manipulation.
