Direct cooperation with Tanzanian organic cotton farmers over one generation. Since 1994.

Remei has been working directly with Tanzanian smallholders since 1994. Remei does not outsource. We directly source the organic cotton we need to produce the traceable finished textiles for our B2B partners. 
 
What is now aptly called the direct-to-farm approach didn’t even have a name back in the 1990s. But from the very beginning, it was the direct relationships between people who took on the task of growing and purchasing organic cotton. And these relationships have continued to this day. 
 
We would therefore like to share a very personal story from Remei here:
 
Recently, in April 2024, Patrick Hohmann, the founder of Remei, Simon Hohmann, CO-CEO of Remei, and Niranjan Pattni, the former CEO of Remei Tanzania Ltd. visited the Remei Tanzania Ltd. team in Mwamishali and met with organic cotton farmers with whom they had started collaboration 30 years ago.
 
In addition to the warm welcome, the days on site were also accompanied by a great deal of mutual respect. The visits to the long-time companions, organic cotton farmers who have been working with Remei since the 1990s, were very moving moments for both sides.
 
The farmers who also came together at the Remei Tanzania Ltd. headquarters for the Producer Representative Board greatly appreciated the visit from Patrick Hohmann, Simon Hohmann and Niranjan Pattni, and they were all able to revel in the many stories of their long collaboration.

Since the generational change in 2018, the local team has developed significantly. Both pioneers are confident that the Remei Tanzania Ltd. team will conscientiously take its responsibility for direct cooperation with organic cotton farmers and the availability of the raw material into the future.

We firmly believe that Remei’s direct collaboration with local organic cotton farmers is essential and that our investments in these long-term organizational structures and relationships is the only way to promote a positive development of cotton farmers.


Remei’s goal is to integrate organic cotton farmers into a fully transparent textile supply chain. This is the basis for fair trading relationship at raw material level, but also the prerequisite for the traceability of all finished textiles back to the fibre origin.
