Organic cotton purchase from our contract farmers in Tanzania
OVERALL, WE EXPECT A GOOD HARVEST SEASON
Buying up in Tanzania continues at full pace until the end of the month. The balanced rainfall this year has favoured the growth of the cotton plants.
During harvest time, Remei Tanzania’s contract farmers from Meatu and Maswa districts first store the cotton on their own farms before taking the hand-picked raw material to collection points in the villages by ox cart, bicycle or sometimes pickup truck. When they sell, they receive a premium from Remei in addition to the local market price for their performance in organic farming.
Every textile from Remei’s Tanzanian supply chain will later tell a story
… AND CREATES A CONNECTION FOR THE END CUSTOMER TO 29 VILLAGE CLUSTERS AND THE REMEI CONTRACT FARMERS
Remei’s systematic mass flow control, on which the digital tracking tool my-trace by Remei is based, makes this possible and reveals which village cluster the cotton comes from. The transparency of textiles from our supply chain starts even earlier, with the seeds that Remei Tanzania provides to the farmers.
The agricultural extension staff of Remei Tanzania’s 80-member team are in active exchange with their contract farmers throughout the cotton season and support them with know-how on organic farming methods.
