Promising signs of a good cotton harvest in Tanzania

Elias Lugedenga, organic cotton farmer in Mwamishali village in Meatu District in Tanzania is hoping for a good cotton harvest. This year, he has grown 16 hectares of organic cotton and all are in promising condition. Marco Paul, Co-CEO of bioRe Tanzania visits the fields with him.

After sowing the cotton seeds, the field work on the cotton fields begins in Tanzania from February to mid-May. Weeds are weeded and pests are kept away with natural means. The cotton, which is sown early, ripens in May and is harvested from the end of May. The main harvesting season is in June and July and ends in August.

bioRe Tanzania is at the beginning of Remei’s supply chain from Fibre to Fashion and works with 1,952 organic cotton farmers in Meatu District.
