Remei’s work on due diligence in organic cotton

Transparency in organic cotton is Remei’s expertise and an essential element in the implementation of effective due diligence practices in the textile value chain.

So far, we have appreciated it when independent journalists have tried to
to draw attention to the challenges of agricultural cultivation in the textile chain that are very important to Remei, and we have been used to working with NGOs to find constructive solutions within our transparent supply chain.

On January 07, 2025, the NGO ‘Transparentem’ published the report Enhancing Due Diligence in Cotton Supply Chains.

The report highlights positively Remei’s full transparency at the raw material level and our long-established processes on the ground in Madhya Pradesh for direct and reliable cooperation with smallholder farmers and the implementation of due diligence in organic cotton, but unfortunately puts Remei in the context of anonymized, alleged “incidences”.

We must note that to date the NGO has been unable to provide Remei with specific details that would allow us to understand the allegations, establish a concrete link to our supply chain or analyse appropriate measures for these alleged cases, which in the meantime date back up to two years.

We criticize the lack of transparency of `Transparentem` in their investigation and in relation to human rights risks, as transparency is an essential element of due diligence.

Remei stands for transparency and we would therefore like to point out that Remei is not in a position to comment on the allegations in the current report.
